Responsible freedom
Freedom together with accountability develops character. We find that this allows students to grow into responsible young adults, well-prepared for the real world. Students leave Icon with confidence, maturity and a desire to succeed.
Icon
Icon has a number of meanings. Here are a few:
- An important and long-lasting symbol
- Someone that we look up to and wish to be like
- An entrance to a programme or something of value.
As a school, we want to be a long-lasting symbol of success. We believe each of our students can become an icon, admired and respected for who they have become. To create icons, we focus on success, and what this means to each student.
Success
We believe students succeed when they are free to develop in a nurturing environment characterised by responsibility and mutual respect. Being small and intimate, we spend time with each student, developing a Personal Success Plan. We monitor ongoing progress and ultimately celebrate the development of icons!
We understand that success means different things to different people. This might be meeting the entrance requirements for university, making new friends or building confidence.
Our goal
We are focused on developing the entire potential of students: academic, emotional and social. At Icon our aim is to unlock potential and develop students who can confidently say:
“I have a mind of my own and care about others”
“I show initiative and desire success”
“I belong”
“I value teachers and friends who care”
“I am recognised for who I really am”
“I am confident”
“Responsible freedom lets me grow”
“Icon gives me the space to be me.”
